Christmas cards

Just to say - I have today sorted out and rationalised my Christmas card list and deleted 21 people in total. Yup, shocked me too. A good few are Blogger friends. So, if I sent you a card and you didn't send one to us - you're off my list from now on. It saves all of us money and effort in the end. Not being cruel - just sensible that's all. No offence intended.

  1. Loving all those Christmas lights! I understand cutting your list - I've done the same thing. Lots of folks are sadly no longer interested in exchanging cards, but I hope to continue doing it!

    1. Me too Carol - you're still glued very firmly on my list! Hope you're doing OK, I guess you heard about the unexpected loss of Janis Woolbright on Friday. Sad news. Love, Di xxx

  2. The postal strikes sure didn’t help matters, and the cost of living increases are squeezing everyone. I understand some people have given up sending Christmas cards permanently! Such a shame. Totally understand your decision xxx

    1. Hi Sarn! I agree that it's a shame and I certainly won't be giving up on sending cards. But, sometimes we have to stand back and be sensible. Some of it has been passage of time, cost, usefulness outlived and one was pure spite. So - we move on! And you're still top of our list of recipients - Dudley would have some woofing to do otherwise! Plus - I happen to have a few leaves here - wink! Di xx

  3. I do the same thing. Then if someone again sends me a card, I put them back on for next year. The reasonable thing to do. I'm enjoying cards continuing to come. Never too late for any occasion--always brightens my day! And I leave them on display forever--almost!

    1. Hi Greta! It's at the point that I now use an erasable ballpoint pen for my Christmas cards record book! Some people are in and out like fiddlers elbows as I'm the same as you. If I get 'caught out' this coming Christmas I'll use Jacqui Lawson's electronic cards rather then get into a panic as I usually do. When I was doing the mass deletion process I did think - gosh, I bet so and so will send us a card after all next Christmas! But I don't like to make people feel obliged. And, I do usually pick up the 'vibes' and am generally proved right when folk want to throw in the towel for whatever reason.Like you - I still have a few Christmas cards around my craft room here! xxx You doing OK?

  4. I didn't send any this year, just because of circumstances, and only received about half the usual number... I think my list will be being culled also...

  6. With post and the cost of living both up in the air I am totally with you Di. Daughter Joy had a note on the inside one of of her cards (relative of SIL) it would be a last one as they were ceasing sending in future, as she said, at least she knows where she is with that one. One less for me to make!!

  7. It's a tough one Di! If I only sent Christmas cards to those who sent them to me, I'd have a very small list. I LOVE to get Christmas cards! I love to display them and feel loved at this time of the year - especially as we're so far away from loved ones in Australia! But sadly fewer and fewer return the favour. They all enjoy receiving them though and have told me so, so if I have the time I'll send them to those who never return them and concentrate on sending them to the ones who do return. As anyone who makes their own Christmas cards knows, the cost of the postage is minimal compared to the love and time (and stash) that goes into making them! It's when they tell me they're trying to reduce postage costs or save the environment, that I get annoyed! I wish they'd just admit that they don't have the time (or as is most likely the case that they don't think it's worth spending the time on - we're all busy at this time of year)! I believe maintaining that often tenuous connection at Christmas IS worth spending the time on, especially as we all get older. I remember being terribly upset one year when there were several dear ones I could no longer send cards to!

  8. I was sad to have made a whole raft of handmade cards only to have so many people seemingly not send me one either ....... we're still receiving Christmas cards so I'm holding off on removing these people from next years list just yet. Over the years I HAVE culled a few, those people we've not seen for years so are just going through the motions! I admire your decisiveness.
Loving the Christmas card in today's post too
Happy Tuesday to you and your readers

  11. It's inevitable that people drop off Christmas card lists for a number of reasons and of course new people become included from time to time - fact of life 😉. This past season was a bad one for card deliveries - as well as for such things as cheques sent to pay bills, statements not arriving as they should resulting in hassle contacting various utilities and so on. Just don't ask me how I know this 🙄🙄 - yet another frustrating phone call to make later.

  12. I agree Di, I've take people off my list every year. I usually do two missed years and then off!

  13. Yep! I'm afraid postage costs are making us all think twice about sending cards. My postage charges went down from over £50 to £35 this year, and that is with increased postage. I agree wholeheartedly Di. Needs to be done, sorry about it though. I'll still send birthday cards and the rest though, at least the postage is spread out for those hahahaha

  14. Lol a few slip off my list every year too! Best purge was thanks to the pandemic - I used to give little handmade Xmas cards to my work colleagues but now everyone is mostly working from home (and I don't bother selling my cards in work now) I don't feel the need anymore. Definitely don't miss making those 20+ cards 😉
Love your fairy lights card by the way, you're definitely a good girl and starting early!!

  15. Hi, Di, I can certainly understand this. Times are changing and postage costs really add up when you send out a lot of cards. We are on a fixed income with Brian's disability pension so that's a factor as well. Not sure if you received my card or not, but if you would like to remove my name, that would be fine. I guess we could agree to remove each other if you like, so please let me know. I have been trying to pare down my list as well, so I appreciate that you brought up this topic, and I take no offense at all.

  16. Your Christmas lights are amazing, I remember a very similar card a few ago and as at that time I'm so impressed about the fabulous 3D look oof the lights.
I understand you well, Di. I can’t send cards, especially overseas. I’m sorry but I have some problems, not only the high cost to send cards oversea to the UK and the USA with the crazy Italian customs duties, but the fact that I can't queue for long in the post office (another absurdity here, you know when you enter, but not when you finally will go out!) as I can't leave my mother alone for a lot of time, because she has the Alzheimer and I am dealing with her on my own full time. Sorry. I hope nobody’s offended by this.

    1. The outer frame, which they're attached to does most of the work. I used a fine Zing glue pen right around the frame plus just here and there on the back of the little lights then popped a large acrylic block on top until the glue set. Super fast really! x

  18. Love these pretty Christmas lights Di - very cute. I admire your decisiveness in culling your Christmas card list ... I got about 15 short of what I sent this year, including members of my own family! I think a lot of people decided not to bother this time due to a combo of cost of living squeeze and postal strikes .. in some ways I can understand it as the postal service was shocking this year ... I had several cards land after Christmas including two in 4 January; and I know that a card I posted on 7 December didn't arrive til after Christmas. Not good news for people like us who love making cards though .. having very little family and a select circle of friends, I certainly make a lot more cards than I ever have occasion to send; which is sad as I find it gives a lot of pleasure both to give and receive a hand made card. xx
