Rudolph Days Challenge - July 2021

Wow, what a scramble to make a card for this month's Rudolph Days Challenge over at Scrappy Mo's!

With so little time spare I did a quick rummage through what few saved shop bought card fronts to upcycle were left after my massive 'cull' - and came up with this:

I used:

- 5.75" x 5.75" square white card blank

- slightly smaller snippet of gold mirri card, glued onto card front

- slightly smaller again piece of patterned paper from LOTV's 'Woodland Wishes' Christmas papers pad - glued in place

- the front of an oblong card, trimmed down to a square and then mounted onto a backing of gold mirri card - another snippet bites the dust!

- then glued the image panel onto the card front and called it done

In real life the colours are a bit stronger - camera and sunshine!

Used the gold mirri card to 'frame' the layers' as the image and sentiment are
foiled in gold, to 'pull' the whole card together.

It seems like a bit of a cheat, but I'm just not up to stamping and die cutting right now - my in-house critic really likes the end result and I rather like it as well, even if I say so myself!

Still keeping a tally of how many Christmas cards I've made but have accepted that I can no longer thrash myself half to death trying like crazy to produce absolutely loads. And you know what, having made that decision I do feel much happier for it.

  2. A great bit of recycling here with the image which you've toned beautifully with the background and gold card certainly does the trick of pulling it all together.

  3. Very pretty piece of recycling.
I’ve been supplementing my Christmas card requirements with Charity cards & occasional E-cards for a few years now & don’t feel the least bit guilty. Out hobby is meant to be fun, not a chore!!!!

  13. A really clever piece of upcycling Di! You've made it look as if all your elements came from a coordinating bundle of goodies! I agree with you - if making so many Christmas cards becomes stressful then it's not being the fun activity it's meant to be! Vicky xx

  16. Di, I haven't made any Christmas cards yet but I have quite a lot left over from last year. So I am not worried yet. Love your card and a great use of the cards that were sent to you. At the moment I am busy making cards to take to a Care Home I supply with cards, every couple months. So have to get them finished by Monday. Have a great weekend, hugs, Carol S.xxx

  17. This is so pretty and elegant, and I love the fact that you upcycled a store bought card. I know how you feel about not making something from scratch because I used to feel like I was cheating somehow as well. However, what is the difference between designing a card with pre-printed card fronts, or designing one with patterned papers and purchased embellishments? Nothing!! Isn't it silly how we tend to bash ourselves over the head to meet some preconceived notion of what it "should be"? Glad you've also decided to give up the idea of meeting quotas for card making as well. As I always tell my husband when he starts to let his perfectionist ways get the better of him, "No one cares...it doesn't even matter to anyone except for you!"

  25. Now that paper could have been purpose made for the used card front. Genius but then
I knows that already. Just having a quick spin round blogland before onto the next job. Life is so full of interruptions at the moment. Hugs Me. .
