Pixie's Snippets Playground #393 - Prize H

Here's the eighth prize in the 'Snippets Playground Celebration' prize draw:

I used:

- 5.5" x 4.25" white card blank, side opening

- snippet of white card for the background, about the same size as the card front, put to one side for now

- another snippet of white card onto which I stamped various sentiments from Uniko's 'Simply Said Blocks - Christmas' set of stamps - following the idea Bev showed for using the stamps in her shop HERE

- to stamp the sentiments I used the following Brilliance Teardrop ink pads, from the top downover:  Purple, Poppy, Sky Blue, and Thyme (this is for my own future reference when I find time to make a batch of several of these cards in one go)

- for the tree trunk I used the wrong side of one of the sentiments to stamp a solid block of 'Coffee Bean' Brilliance ink

- then cut out all the sentiments by hand (for the HAPPY I stamped the HAPPY CHRISTMAS' and then trimmed it down to the HAPPY). I trimmed that piece first so I would know how much to trim from each side of the other sentiments

- once I had the strips trimmed and also a piece snipped down for the trunk, I glued them in place onto the snippet of white card I put to one side earlier, using a Zig glue pen

- hunted around for a small star shaped punch, to no avail. So I used a peel off star with its border to top off the 'Christmas Tree' (never get rid of your peel offs!)

- then using my trimmer I just eyeballed at first then trimmed the panel down until I had even spacing all around it when it was measured up against the card front

-  it needed 'something' else and at first I thought of adding a narrow 'frame' of gold card, then had a lightbulb moment and remembered my Sakura Callipgraphy pens so used a gold one to run along all four edges of the panel

- it still looked a bit 'flat' when placed on the card so I backed the panel with white fun foam and glued it in place using Collall All Purpose glue

- finished, and in fact a really simple card to make - perfect for batch baking!

I can see, having taken the photo in absolutely dire light, that there's a shadow down the left side of the panel where it's raised on fun foam. And also the tree is a bit a 'on the wonk' as I just eyeballed it - and am now sure I must have an eye that's also also 'on the wonk'!! Even allowing for the fact that the whole card is a bit askew in the photo, I should have at least measured when adding the green strip (built the tree from the bottom up). However, I just measured the thing and it's only 1mm out but to me it really does show. Hey though, it all adds to the hand made look - and that's my excuse 😆

I do love this set of sentiments and can see me using them a lot with Memento Tuxedo Black ink - there's even a HAPPY NEW YEAR stamp in the set. And they're a breeze to trim around - I used quite big scissors to cut the length in one clean cut and then smaller scissors for the short sides. A nice little job to (dare I even say it right now) take away on holiday. Anyone remember what a holiday is? Some sheets of stamped sentiments and a pair of sharp scissors and away you go!

And of course today's prize is this:

It's the Uniko Simply Said Blocks Christmas' set of stamps, the same as I used today, and once again you three chances to win a set!

At the end of all of the celebrations I'll do a massive draw session for all the prizes using the one Mr Linky - which is on the main snippets post HERE along with details of exactly how to join in - so you do need to have entered one snippets make over on that post during the three weeks that the challenge runs for to be in with a chance :) Maximum of one entry please - to keep things fair for those who may not have time to craft. Mr Linky closes at 11am on Saturday 9th January so you do need to have added a snippets make by then to be eligible for the draw.

Do please take time to read 'the rules' on the post in the above link. No-one has found them confusing, as yet, but they really do cover a lot of ground and are worth reading.

Just leave a comment on this post if you would like the chance to win today's prize.

Almost at the end of the prizes now, although you will still have until 11am on Saturday to add your ONE entry to Mr Linky and also to comment on any prizes you would like to win. But remember, please don't rush in and do them all at once - I will spot that right away.

No additional news from here since two days ago - one day is much like another and we're both having difficulty at times remembering what day of the week it is! Thankfully, Dudley knows no different except that the route for his walks has changed to avoid the areas that everyone seems to head for when they go out for exercise.

Love from Parsnip, Dudley and of course me,

  1. Lovely design stacking the sentiments for the tree. A little wonkiness adds that custom handmade touch to our cards. You're definitely not alone in losing track of the days, they all seem to meld into each other. Let's hope we all maintain our sanity until this pandemic is over. I'll take a pass on this prize. Take care.

  6. Hi dear Di, no thanks to prize as nice as it is, however wanted to make suggestion re the wonky tree.
I frequently use either my T ruler or very giant calligraphy set square to make sure something is sraight and at 90 degrees to the vertical ... I have both within hands grasp of my desk that’s how often I use them.
    Here is mine:

    Hope that helps.
    Wouldn’t be without mine.
Praying for you all over there to be kept safe!

  8. A lovely card but I already have lots of festive sentiments so I'll pass on this one thanks.
As for knowing the day of the week, we actually forgot to put the bins out last week because we thought it was Friday and they were due on Saturday - then we heard the dustcart trundling up the road!

  9. Brilliant CAS card Di, I just love this set of stamps. Your design show how versatile they are. Peeloffs are really handy when you haven’t got the punch or die you need, so they still make an appearance on some of my cards now and again. I have accumulated quite a few sheets over the years! I’m a Yes Please for Prize H. xx

  14. I love the tree and it has a natural look. lol (Though I too hate things not stuck down straight), Yes please they look so useful, I'd love to be in the draw. Thanks again for doing it and I hope it's not driving you too scatty. Take care, keep smiling, it's all we can do. And stamping of course xxx

  15. Love this Di so yes please!
We too have had to find more secluded places - narrow paths are not good for avoiding those who cannot measure 1metre never mind 2.
Not that there's a lot of walking getting done here at the mo - we have had lots of snow over the last few days- just when you think it's thawing it drops down some more! x

  19. Fabulous card, looks straight enough to me and I've never seen any christmas that isn't a bit wonky! I do like that set and it is very tempting, but as I've already get so many christmas sentiments (including several Uniko) I'll say 'no thanks' to this prize.
I stopped trying to work out what day of the week it was ages ago.... now I just try and keep track of when we have a click + collect or home delivery! Hope the new year is getting off to a good start for you xx

I love your creativity - I never would have thought of that! Thank you for another awesome giveaway - woot, woot! I'm excited about all of these prizes!

  27. I do love the simplicity of your card, Di. Yes, please to "H". You are right, they'll be many uses for this set.

  28. Oh YES PLEASE to this stamp set. I love the strip sentiments and they look so cheery on the colored paper. Had to chuckle at your detailed description of what went wrong, because I am the same. If there is a teeny bit off kilter, or not quite what I planned, it just keeps staring me in the face. Of course, to everyone else, it looks just perfect!

I also love that they included a Happy New Year sentiment, because I've been rummaging through my sets for weeks and can't seem to find one at all. After a year like 2020, everyone needs a Happy New Year sentiment, right?

    ReplyDelete
  29. Yes please to the prize - one can never have enough Christmas sentiments IMO! I absolutely love what you've done with them. I'm sure the camera has accentuated any wonkiness! I've been photographing my cards from the side for a while now for this reason. Hopefully you'll be sipping cocktails (and wearing any decorative flowers from said cocktails) in some exotic location in the not too distant future! Stay safe!

  33. Hi Miss Di, well we awoke to news that the UK is again in a hard lockdown due to coronavirus, may you and all the others in the playground remain safe and healthy, we cannot enter any businesses including banks and post offices without wearing a mask here, yesterday we only had 3 cases in all of the Sydney area. I would love this prize, I love the look of the old labelling system and use the MFT ones I have regularly. Thanks for running such a fun challenge... have a wonderful week.... Megan

  44. Di, your sentiment CAS Christmas tree card is adorable! I'll pass on the prize this time as I have many sentiment sets and I don't use them very often. Am sure the winners will love making cards, or journal entries, with this cute set.

  45. Yes please Di, I love block stamps and haven’t managed to get any Uniko yet. Love your card......had to go back and look for the wonky green! We are funny! We had a wall hung loo unit installed a few years back, I said it wasn’t central, so they measured it and it was a centimetre out.......raised that rolled eyes good grief look as you can imagine! Xx

  46. It is so original what you did with these stamps. I would never have thought about this, so 1000 compliments!!
And I say yes to the prize!

  47. I have this brilliant set, so will obviously not be joining in the draw for this one. I do want to say though that it is one of my most-used Christmas sentiment sets and whoever wins it will be very lucky! I love that you also hunt about for tools that you've used recently and can't quite remember what you did with them - VERY relatable! Holida?! Can't think what you mean!!! Vicky xx

  48. yes please to this fabulous set, thanks you Di. I know what you mean about 'seeing' the least little error when it comes to having things centred etc. I never was like that until I had been card making for a year or so...

  51. Love the sentiments put into the tree shape, Di! How very clever. :-D I think I could do that with computer printed sentiment (with a little practice :-D) I'm going to try that for next holiday season. NOT putting my name in for the prize this time - I really want to see if I can do it by computer.

  52. What a genius way of using those fab little stamps - love all the fun colours too!
I'm a 'yes please' for this prize.
