Pixie's Snippets Playground - Challenge #352

Well, we almost didn't have a new challenge this time round. I was prepared to extend Challenge #351 and allow folk to add a second entry - but Percy Veerance whispered in my ear 'You're no quitter' - so I ploughed on.

Basically, it's baaaack, and I'm laid up in bed once again - hopping round on crutches when I need to go to the loo. For a while now I've suspected that Mr Goat/Gout was still hovering in the background and hadn't gone totally away. To the point that I only just made the appointment for my blood test (for next week) to check things out (you need to be fully recovered for blood levels to be checked prior to starting the preventative meds) - I just knew it wasn't back to normal and the ankle bones on the other foot were complaining! Then 'wham' - back with a vengeance in that other foot a couple of days ago.

I'm so very glad our lovely Sarn, who was always the cause of a lot of mischief with her parties behind the bike sheds, had sent me a lovely set of dies for the toy box - and had also made a beautiful card as well. I can't thank you enough Sarn for your perfect timing and also the wonderful card and prize.

So, here's Sarn's card for this fortnight's challenge:
And this is how Sarn made her card:
  • I used a 5" square card base (side opening) and used snippets of white, plus SU Island Indigo and Mango Melody for everything else.
  • I die cut the Craft Emotions "Hogweed" die three times from different snippets of Island Indigo and Mango Melody, then glued the results to the base card in a pleasing arrangement.
  • The sentiment is from Precious Remembrance Shop's "New Day" stamp set. It was stamped onto a white snippet using SU Island Indigo ink, then matted and layered with further snippets of matching card stock.
  • The little star banner was created using two very old SU punches (long retired) with tiny snippets of matching card stock.
Oh how I love this card! Sarn sent me the original and it's gorgeous! What a wonderful set of dies (two of them in the set) and I do love the design, colours etc. of Sarn's card. And that sentiment is perfect - certainly my mantra at the moment!

And of course, the prize this fortnight is this (image taken from the internet, although the die set from Sarn is lying on my desk of course and I can't even get that far right now):

A Craft Emotions 'Hogweed' set of two dies, courtesy of our lovely Sarn. They do remind me very much of Memory Box's 'Chloe Stem' die - but these are more delicate I think. So pretty!

Edit: Apologies about the missing images. They showed up when I wrote and previewed this post. Hopefully it's fixed now - if someone can let me know it's OK that would be really helpful.

As always, the Snippets Challenge will run for two weeks and the Playground gates will close at 11am UK time on Saturday 25th May. The gates will open again at midnight UK time on the same day.

It's a maximum of ONE entry and please say in a comment if you wish to play and be a possible winner of the prize. Please also link back to the Playground in your blog post to be eligible for the draw.

Remember, if you link into the Playground and don't say clearly that you want to be in the draw in a comment on here, then you will be bypassed if your name comes out of Mr Linky. I'm sure you all know I ask for a positive 'yes' on the blog post itself - just in case you're playing only for fun - otherwise I don't add you to my little list.

Mr Linky is below - please let me know if you have any problems linking, it's easy for me to sort out so don't struggle on alone ☺

I strongly suspect that this setback will put the 'tin lid' on my planned few days away at my old school reunion at the end of May. To be honest, I had huge misgivings when I felt that things weren't properly back to normal so in some ways it's probably as well that it's flared up now and not whilst I'm away. Almost a relief as it was rather like the Sword of Damocles hanging there! It takes so long to be anywhere near able to walk properly that, barring a miracle, I won't be mobile enough. If I'd got there and then the flare happened, the logistics of getting me plus my car back from the Cotswolds really doesn't even bear thinking about. I guess I'd be riding up with the driver in a recovery truck, with my car on the flat bed behind - if I could even get up there!

No new photos of little Dudley this time. He's finally met the hedgies properly and thanks to Len's idea of using the garden ornament to get him used to hedgies he's quite laid back about it. But, he so wants to play with them - bless his little heart. Two of the hedgies were (ahem) having a courtship party the other evening, lots of circling and grunting - and we've also noticed a much smaller one (probably one of last year's babies) coming to feed as well! Len managed to get some photos of the two 'fully grown' hedgies:
'Can't you see - I'm a little bit busy right now, trying to impress the future Mama of my 2019 hoglets!'
'I've got my eye on you Mr Len, now hop it and leave us in peace!'
Lots of love from us all - Parsnip, Dudley and of course me -

  1. Well I am an early bird Di, but since it’s after midday here already it’s not even morning.

My heat sank for you when I read the opening of this post. I am so sorry, dear Di. I’ve had a rough 2019 health wise and know how disheartening it is when you think things are turning for good ... that they go belly up.

Sending loads of hugs and most of all many prayers for some relief.
If any time you need a card, my hand is up, Di. Last minute ok. I’m expert at last minute as that’s when I generally think to do it!

Now I sadly can’t see Sarns card, tried two different webrowsers but sadly a no show this end .. will pop over to Sarns blog to see if she’s shared it.
Hedgies super duper cute! Yes, mr Len leave us in peace 😊.

YES, PLEASE to dies, dear Di, I too have MB Chloe die but can see this would be more realistic and versatile.

Loads of hugs and prayers dear Di, keep your chin up. ❤️❤️I’m very very thankful for your dedication in running this challenge.❤️❤️

  2. Oh Di, I'm so sorry to hear that Mr Goat is back. Hope this time it clears up quickly - and thoroughly enough for you to be able to start the preventive medication.
Fantastic hedgehog photos, they must feel very confident around you to allow them to be taken!
As for Sarn's card, I can't get it to load - I think my internet must be a bit lumpy today so I'll pop back later and hope for a proper look.

  5. Hope you feel better soon Di.

Have uploaded an entry to my blog as the card picture isn't currently showing.

Wishing you a VERY speedy recovery.

    Sending love and hugs,
    Sarn xxx

PS: Fellow Playmates . . . come find me in my usual spot behind the bike sheds for contraband. I think we'll be pretty safe now that Miss Di can't wander over and catch us! We'll hear the creak of those crutches in plenty of time to hide everything away!

  7. HOW did you know that my crutches creak Sarn? Spot on there kiddo! Are you playing for the prize - snigger :) Oh, and I think I cured the missing images. Needed to save them to a local drive first rather than just picking them up and doing a straight copy and paste!

    Love, and hugs thanks!

  10. So sorry to hear you're under attack again, Di. I know it's a really painful condition - and debilitating too - so I hope it's soon under control and you are feeling more comfortable much more quickly this time. Such a shame you could be missing your annual reunion - fingers crossed for that miracle! Sharn's card is gorgeous - love the sentiment, lovely colour choice and so clean and simple too. The dies are lovely so please add my name to the draw. I'm still trying to attract a hedgie, or two or three or more, to my garden - there's des res just waiting there for them - but so far no sign. I'm taking consolation from the pair of sparrows nesting in the eaves and looking forward to seeing the fledglings when they are ready. Len's photos are great. Take care, rest up and get well soon. Hugs, Elizabeth xx

  11. I say go ahead and curse, scream and pitch a fit. Don't kick the door though. Gout is so painful and I'm sorry that it's come back. We all know our body and can tell when something like that is not totally gone. I really do hate it for you. Be careful walking. I hate that you are missing your reunion.

The hedgies are so very cute. Thanks for sharing the pictures. [Bunny]

  13. And there was I blaming my internet for the missing picture! Glad you have got it sorted, because it's a real stunner. Those dies are gorgeous, I'll be playing for the prize when i link up my card in a few days. I have the Chloe Stem die too but these could be used in more realistic situations - and could be used WITH the Chloe stem to make a lovely bouquet.

  14. I'm so sorry that nasty gout flared up again Di - I had a touch of it once and it's quite painful, I'm well aware. Hopefully it's a speedy recovery this time for you. I send warm healing hugs across the miles in the hopes you'll soon be feeling well again! Take care, and how sweet of Sarn to come to the rescue for you :)

  15. I hate to hear the gout is back after lurking around for a while. It is so painful and I'm so sorry this is back. Take care of yourself and let it heal. Sarn's card is so pretty with the blue and yellow delicate flower die cuts.

  16. Oh no, I am truly sorry that you are not better and that the pain has returned. I wish you the best and sending a little prayer over to you. So good of you to keep up with your challenge even so. Your hedgies are very cute!

  18. Oh Di, I'm so sadden to read this and hear that old man Gout has raised his ugly head once again!!! Yes, it is good that it happened now and not when you were away for the reunion, but not glad that it has flared badly to begin with. I pray that you get relief soon and it doesn't last as long as last time! How wonderful of Sarn to come to the rescue with the card and die!!! Yes, she causes a bit of problems behind the bike shed but she is always there in a pinch like now. Fab card and fab die prize!!! Hugs, Brenda

  19. Oh no, no, no! I'm so sorry it's back, Di! Glad you weren't away, though--something good in the midst of this setback. Sarn's card is wonderful & so is the prize! 20. OUCH, Ouch, ouch ******* I'm so sorry to hear that dratted goat is back causing you so much pain. Nothing for it but to settle yourself on that bed with Dudley to keep you company and Nurse Parsnip on call until you recover (fully this time)!
And isn't Sarn wonderful for stepping in with an amazing card.... fabulous dies and a sentiment we should all say to ourselves each day. It's a yes please from me this week.

And not forgetting Len's fabulous hedgie photos, they look like they've made themselves part of the family xx

  32. Oh, Di, I'm so sorry to hear you've got a goat growing out of the other foot now. What rotten luck, especially with the timing of the school reunion which I know you wanted to attend. Still, as you said, better that it happened while you were at home.

Thank you to Sarn for helping you out! Love her card!

I have a question about the cute hedgies that I don't remember reading the answer to before. Are they sweet or are they mean? I think you've got Mr. HH's words quite right because that is one hairy eyeball if I've ever seen one and I wouldn't want to get too close. OTOH, I'm thinking that they must be gentle and kind or you wouldn't let King Dudley anywhere near them. It's all so interesting to me as a lover of all critters and someone who has never seen a hedgie in real life before!

I know you'll accept your lumps with as much grace as you can muster, unfair though it is. I hope and pray it's a quick "there and gone" affair this time. I imagine your patience is worn very thin with it all. Many friends are pulling for you, my dear, and keeping you in thought and prayer! Big hugs and love, Darnell

  33. So sorry to hear that your Gout is back Di, my MIL suffered badly with it too. It's been a while since I was in the playground last, although with the amount of scraps that I have I could do with visiting everyday.

  34. So sorry to hear your gout is back Di. It must be really disheartening for you. Wonderful of Sarn to come to the rescue and her cas card is so pretty. Brilliant pics of the hedges, they don't seem to be shy do they? I will hopefully be back in the next week or so and, if so, it would be a yes please for the draw. I hope this lovely weather can cheer you up a bit x

  56. Oh my gosh Di, this is so discouraging to hear that you've had another flare-up. This seems like the gout has decided to hang around for the duration, but I do hope your doctors can figure a way to chase it off soon.
