Rudolph Day September 2014 over at Sarn's - I made two of the same card :)
Merry Monday, where it's Christmas Bingo, I chose the left hand vertical column, sparkle, die cut and red:
Crafthazelnut's Christmas Challenge - where you have to make a card in 20 minutes or less, once you have stuff out ready on your desk. To be honest I thought I wouldn't manage that but was amazed at how fast I could work when everything was already to hand, the card design was planned and I wasn't dithering around. 30 minutes for two identical cards, so I think 20 minutes for one is about right 'cos the second one is always a bit faster?!
And, Craftyhazelnut's Christmas Challenge Extra, where it's always 'Anything goes' This was the result:
And to prove, for Sarn, that I made two cards:
I used:
- A6 tent style white card blank, with lower corners rounded using a We Are Memory Keepers Corner Chomper
- the top three quarters of the card front was embossed using Cuttlebug's 'Snowflakes' folder sideways on, then I used the Hougie Board to score across the slight mark that had been left by the edge of the embossing folder. In fact that worked well (I thought) to create a nice division between the embossing and the plain part of the card where the sentiment was to be stamped - harrumph, even though the scored line doesn't show up in the photos!
- I used SU's 'Real Red' ink pad and an Inkylicious sentiment called 'Winter Wonderland'
- next came the snowflakes, I'd covered some white card stock with clear sparkly film and using a die set called 'Layered Snowflakes' by Whimsy cut out three snowflakes for each card (thankfully all in one go per card as die cutting through card topped with sparkly film takes a good few passes and some determination). The snowflakes were glued using 'Glossy Accents' and topped off with Aurora Borealis sparkly gems
Phew, then I truly needed a lie down to recover! Photographs, writing this post and also clearing away the stuff I used/sort of threw aside after I'd used it has taken MUCH longer!

Two gorgeous cards, Di, and a couple of interesting techniques I haven't tried before. I'd not thought to use the glittery film before die-cutting and can't think why but it never occurred to me to emboss card the way you have done here. Everyday's a school day :) Thanks for sharing. Hugs, Elizabeth xx
ReplyDeletePS: really must go to bed!
I like how you embossed only part of the card and left the rest smooth for the sentiment -- it's an idea I'll store for later use.
ReplyDeleteBeautiful! Love those sparkly snowflakes!
ReplyDeletePretty sparkly cards, and what a great tip for scoring over the mark left by the folder. Tfs xxx
ReplyDeleteMore great Christmas cards Di! I'll be pinching your idea with the embossing folder to use sideways on, then score between the embossed and plain sections. :-) xx
ReplyDeleteThis having holidays lark is all very well but I am soooooo missing not being able to get inky and gluey!
ReplyDeleteLove these two cards Di, right up my street for Christmas - frosty and white and a bit of blingy! x
I chose the same set of options for my make and boy how different it looks from you FABULOUS collection, Di, very elegant too

Gorgeous card Di and love your twinkling snowflakes

Lovely cards Di - a great idea to use your Hougie board to cover the mark left by the embossing folder (will try that one myself!).

Two beautiful cards Di. I was thinking about covering paper with glitter film before die-cutting earlier this week, but I went off on a different track in the end...as you do!
ReplyDeleteI also thought the twenty minute card might be do-able, but I was busy on other things, so I doubt I'll make it now. But well done to you for proving it is possible, and with such great results. Kate x
Really gorgeous cards Di! This is the fourth time I've tried to comment LOL have a great weekend huggles Sue xxx

ReplyDeleteLovely sparkly cards. Go to the top of the class for completing in the allocated time. I have just seen that partial embossing on another blog. It looks so effective.

ReplyDeleteLove your "frosty" looking card and the shimmer/sparkle is so pretty! Thanks so much for joining us at Merry Monday!
ReplyDeleteYour last sentence is SO true, Di! I always spend way more time taking photos and writing my post than I do making the card! These cards of yours perfectly reflect a "winter wonderland!" I love them! Hugs, Darnell

Well Di thanks for the late play on the swings but I had already put 3 cards on but one didn't link up and I think its because blogger has been a pain so when I checked this morning I thought oh my and lots of other words LOL so thanks huggles Sue xxx
ReplyDeleteThese may have been 'fast' cards, but they surely pack a lot of impact with the embossing and those sparkly snowflakes. Really beautiful. I'm impressed that you made these so quickly. It would take me longer than that, just to clear a space to make a card in that time constraint. Well done!!! TFS & Hugs
ReplyDeleteLove these pretty snowflakes and I can see the score line now that you mention it! Great idea! Thanks for sharing with us at Merry Monday!
ReplyDeleteBeautiful! The sparkly snowflakes against the white background are so elegant! Thanks so much for joining us at Merry Monday.
ReplyDeletetwo simply stunning and elegant cards, Di! Gorgeous!
ReplyDeleteBravo! Beautiful cards, and they fit so many challenges. Sparkling snowflakes on paper are fine, but not IRL. They are predicting another very harsh winter here, and we are so not ready.
ReplyDeleteTwo really stunning cards, I love the sparkly snowflakes. Jan xxx
ReplyDeleteI love your sparkley snowflakes against the embossed background - very pretty!
ReplyDeleteVery pretty! I love the sideways embossing folder idea. Those sparkly snowflakes are da bomb! Also, in the photo of the 2 cards together... I can see your embossed line just barely but I can see it!
