My snippets card this week came about 'cos I was musing about the vast amount of narrow snippets strips I seem to accumulate. Then I remembered an article in this month's Quick Cards Made Easy magazine (my very fave - always something new to learn), which showed the 'bargello' technique - perfect for those pesky strips :) I think how the card is made could be self-explanatory but am happy to make a second one and show measurements and photographs as I go - although, I just found a good tutorial on Splitcoaststampers here.
Anyhow, this is my take on Bargello, but you can do umpteen different things just by lining up strips of snippets and sticking them to thin card, slicing down the layer lengthways and then offsetting them:
I used:
- 7" x 5" white card stock in a tent fold
- strips of saved snippets from Echo Park's 'Hello Summer' paper pad, made into a bargello design. More snippet strips from the same pad along the bottom of the card, when I remember I do save most patterned snippets in the front of pads for future use which makes it easier to co-ordinate
- sentiment by Elzybells, stamped in SU 'Pumpkin Pie'
- card candi by Craftwork Cards
Making this card brought back memories of when I did a lot of tapestry and bargello work - even making a box cushion to go on the seat at one side of a mahoosive stone fireplace MANY years ago.
OK, so what else has been happening in the Playground besides this:
Sorry, am still so thrilled 'cos this ice spike is VERY rare, even though it's not a true 'snippet make' it occurred in OUR Playground :) Enuff on the subject - unless we all get invited onto a tee vee show ........... we could hire a coach and take fizzy pop and sandwiches :)
Elizabeth made this delightful Christmas card, by upcycling a saved one she had - love the teeny present for the birdie :)
Irene showed us a set of three perfectly co-ordinated cushions in lovely shades of blue, they're gorgeous.
Ike had me rolling round laughing with such a clever card - a take on Moulin Rouge - there's a great sense of fun (and naughtiness) there!
And, last but not least, here's such a clever trick for punching those tiny little snippets from Sarn - go and see, it's really neat and one to remember for future use!
As I always say, just wish I had time to show you more but you can check out last week's entries here - they're all fabulous!
Time now for the Random number thingy to do its work and choose who wins last week's prize of the 'Butterfly Suite' stamp:
Well done Ike, two hot spots this week :) Can you please drop me an email to:
di_wray@hotmail.com with your address and the lovely Penny Black stamp will be in the post to you ASAP. Ike does such a wide variety of work and some fabulous colouring so am sure this stamp will be well used! Just wish I had more of them to give away as lots of you did drool over it.
But, this week's prize is a corker - sent from the USA, ordered especially for the Playground by Shaz in Oz. What's even lovelier is that Shaz craves this particular die for herself but chose to order it for the Playmates and have it sent to meas a snippets prize - bless you dear Shaz!
Wahoo! It's a fabulous Memory Box die called 'Summer Border'! Someone is gonna just LOVE this.
The Playground is open all of this coming week but it will close on Saturday 23rd March at noon, UK time and Mr Linky is below as usual. Just enter a snippets make into the Playground this week and I'll do a draw after the Playground closes next Saturday. But, as usual I am asking for a snippets make please, maximum of three entries and please say 'No thank you' in a comment if you wish to still play but not be a winner of this beautiful die.
Enjoy St. Patrick's Day and have a lovely week!
Di

ReplyDeletePS I think my brain has been removed for tidying. I meant to say, thank you for visiting me today and you lovely comments on my Clarity card. I keep all Barbara Gray's programmes from Create and Craft to remind me how to use the stamps I have bought. xx Maggie
ReplyDeleteGreat card Miss. I tried Bargello in quilting once. As I say Once!! Nuff said I think!
ReplyDeleteThose cards from Ike are faaaabulous and I shall be over later for a closer look! Well done on winning the stamp too!
Love that die from Shaz. Hint Hint!!
Does being famous mean we have to wipe our feet when we come in now?
xx
Never heard of this miss before. Just looked at the link you gave. Very easy peasy to do and extremly colourful. Hugs Mrs A.

I think the bird bath spike is brilliant - such fame!! Love your snippets card - great technique and, as you say, just right for using up all those narrow strips x
ReplyDeleteHi Di, what a fab post! Love your icicle story - how amazing! I've never seen or heard of anything like that before!
ReplyDeleteYour Bargello card is gorgeous and definitely a great way to use up snippets. Fabulous snippet shares too.
xx
Well to be quite honest it was more of a case of 'who let the dogs out'
ReplyDeletewe girls can keep them under control.
The biggest problem could be Sarn as Easter is approaching and the hens have not had the limelight for a long, long time.
So it could be a case of Chick, chick, chicken, lay a little egg for me.
Thanks for the searching though.

Monday morning . . . . zzzzz!
ReplyDeleteBack again with tiny snippets! xxx
Hi Di! Just added 2 of my snippet makes :-) what a lovely prize this week! Thanks for the chance to win it xx
ReplyDeleteHello Di, great post - I enjoyed reading through it and finding the icicle led to 15 minutes of fame :) It was kind of you to give my wee card a mention, especially as you must find it nearly impossible to select from all the fabulous creations that were linked this week. It's another upcycled topper from me today - I think you might like the topper as much as I do :) Hugs, Elizabeth xx
ReplyDeleteFinally made a snippet card...and do I mean snippets. I cut the snowballs out of the diecut reverse images and basically there were just thin strip edges with corners. Each snowball is cut fro a corner!
ReplyDeleteA fabulous way to use up narrow strips of card stock Di - why DO we always seem to end up with those?! (In my case it's because I get the measurement wrong first time!) Love the amazing ice spike (are you sure it's not a plastic one you nipped out with?) but it's making me think of St Trinians when the head's having important visitors round... Vicky x
ReplyDeleteI will have to try that technique - the card looks fab!
ReplyDeleteDebs x
Now that's a really nifty technique Miss, must give that one a go. Congrats on the fame! I read most of the article to my interested hubby and he looked at all your photos and announced himself impressed!! Love the die, how generous of Shaz! Count me in!
ReplyDeleteHugs
Brenda
Wow, the playground is famed! What an unusual spike in the birdbath! Love the Bargello! That's a great way to use the strips! Pretty colors and I love the way you've laid them out!
ReplyDeleteApologises for the absence Miss Di, what wonderful snippet makes have been going on while I have been missing. And Shaz was a generous die you have donated, so so kind!
ReplyDeleteHulloooo Miissss!
ReplyDelete...phew finally made it over!! seems lot to do and little time or energy to do two hurried makes here - and what a smasher of a spike in that there of bird bath - did you smash it or was it toooo hard?? cant imagine it being that cold..
A lovely bargello always think must do that :D Shaz in oz.x
Love your bargello card Di, Great for all thos thin snippets! The icicle in yor birdbath is amazing!!How cool (no pun intended heehee:) Cathy x
ReplyDeleteHot Chocolate and sticky buns are a sure draw to come back. Oh, the smell is heavenly and the company is grand. Couldn't come empty handed so here's another card with some snippets!
ReplyDeleteGreat use of snippets. And on Wikipedia...now aren't you the one! and to think I knew you when! Off I go to see what Sarn's trick might be. Always looking for an easier way. Have a wonderful week.
ReplyDeleteLovely gift from Shaz in Oz, thank you, I'd love to be in the chance of winning it :)
ReplyDeleteBig hugs xx
I'm being a pest this week, but this last card used so many snippets that I just had to share.
ReplyDeleteAll I can say is I need a drink!!
ReplyDeleteSorry, Di, I got distracted yesterday after I linked my card and didn't comment. I did mention the amazing stalagmite on my post tho! I'm so glad I didn't miss seeing that, and that you saw it in the first place. It should have gone in the newspaper!
ReplyDeleteI do love how you did that card! It is really striking, just misaligning like that. Thanks for the wonderful tip!
And thanks for the great showcase and no thanks on the draw. You're the best!! xxoo Darnell
Just paid my first visit to the playground! Love the bargello effect on your card.
ReplyDeleteThanks for your comments. I'm in Fleet.
